WASHINGTON, June 15 (DC Times Online) — Sen. Mitch McConnell was admitted to a Washington hospital Sunday morning, and his office said the 84-year-old Kentucky senator was “receiving excellent care” but did not disclose why he was hospitalized.

David Popp, McConnell’s spokesperson, said Monday that McConnell was “fully engaged with staff on Senate business and Kentucky matters.”

Popp did not identify the hospital or provide details about McConnell’s condition, diagnosis or expected release.

It is the second time this year that McConnell has been hospitalized. In a Feb. 2 statement, Popp said McConnell checked himself into a local hospital for evaluation after experiencing “flu-like symptoms” over the prior weekend.

McConnell was discharged Feb. 10 after about eight days in the hospital, according to his office. After his release, Popp said McConnell was feeling better and would work from home for the rest of that week on doctors’ advice.
