NAPA, Calif., July 5 (Sonoma Times) — Napa County sheriff’s deputies referred a hit-and-run case involving Paul Pelosi, 86, to prosecutors after investigators said he struck a legally parked car in Yountville and could face misdemeanor charges, the sheriff’s office said.

Deputies responded July 3 around 2:30 p.m. to the 6700 block of Yount Street, according to the office. Investigators later located Pelosi, who said he had hit something but did not know what he struck, the sheriff’s office said.

A preliminary alcohol screening returned 0.00, and investigators ruled out driving under the influence, according to the office. Pelosi was not arrested, with deputies saying that is common for misdemeanor offenses under California Penal Code section 853.6.

The sheriff’s office said the case was referred to the Napa County District Attorney’s Office for review and that a California DMV re-evaluation referral was expected.

In a separate Napa County case, the district attorney’s office said in 2022 that it filed misdemeanor DUI-with-injury charges against Pelosi after a May 28 collision and said a blood sample showed a .082% blood alcohol content. The office said he was due for arraignment in Napa County Superior Court on Aug. 3, 2022.
