ANNAPOLIS, Md., June 22 (DC Times Online) — Maryland election officials removed Ian Andre Roberts from the state voter rolls on June 2, after records cited in recent reporting showed he had been registered for more than a decade and had signed Maryland registration forms under penalty of perjury, according to state election records.

Republican Del. Matt Morgan, who chairs the Maryland House Freedom Caucus, said the case shows gaps in the system. “This is exactly why Marylanders have lost faith in our elections,” he said.

Maryland voter-registration forms cited in reporting show Roberts checked the citizenship box and signed twice on the forms. The reporting also says the state kept mailing absentee ballots to his address, but the records cited do not show whether he cast a ballot in Maryland.

Maryland elections administrator Jared DeMarinis warned in January against “improper cancellation,” reflecting the state’s stated concern about removing eligible voters as it reviews voter-roll records. The board has not publicly detailed the exact administrative basis for Roberts’ removal.
